Key Skill Requirements / Competencies

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Provide quality medical care under the supervision and direction of Consultants.
• Contribute to quality patient care through case planning including pre-admission planning, in-hospital care, and discharge planning.
• Attend ward rounds and conduct day-to-day review of patients.
• Ensure comprehensive, accurate, and concise medical records are maintained with appropriate signed and dated entries.
• Follow consultant instructions for each individual patient’s treatment regime.
• Arrange investigations, surgical treatment, medical treatment, and discharge as directed by the assigned Consultant.
• Inform admitting consultants of changes in patient medical condition and actions taken.
• Perform clinical procedures as requested by consultant medical staff and nursing staff including administering intravenous drugs.
• Assist with surgical procedures and outpatient clinics as directed by the Consultant.
• Be completely familiar with emergency equipment and procedures.
• Ensure discharge summaries and correspondence are completed promptly before leaving the unit.
• Maintain good communication with all hospital departments and local medical facilities.
• Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement programs.
• Serve as the health physician for coworkers requiring first aid or medical attention while on duty.
• Be on-call or participate in shift rosters when required.
